Aortic Dissection Sagittal View POCUS


Take a look at the appearance of a pericardial effusion, as well as how close the dissection flap gets to the takeoff of the SMA. With chest and belly pain, you might imagine I was worried about their integrity. The radiology resident was confused why I was so concerned... ...because apparently "dissections can't propagate backwards into the pericardial space" and "of course the SMA is patent; why are we spending time looking at this scan together?"
