Why important? 
 - Up to half have a structural abnormality of their 

urinary tract 
 - Pyelonephritis may damage the growing kidney 

by forming a renal scar, which may result in 

hypertension and chronic renal failure 
Predisposing factors? 
 - Incomplete bladder emptying 
 - Constipation 
 - Vesicoureteric reflux
