Description

Molar Pregnancy on Transabdominal Pelvic Ultrasound

"20 yo F presents with suprapubic abd tenderness and mild vaginal bleeding. Urine HCG is NEGATIVE.

Explanation: HCG Quant > 1,000,000.

The Hook Effect: When the HCG is so extremely large, the qualitative urine HCG assay becomes overwhelmed and it reads as negative."
