Delirium Precipitants in the Elderly



I think of delirium like the AKI of the brain. Baseline risk factors:

- Older age

- Multimorbidity

- Existing organ disease (ie dementia)

- Polypharmacy

- Hospitalization



I divide precipitants into:

- Something present that doesn’t belong

- Something absent that’s necessary
