Asymmetrical Tonic Neck Reflex (ATNR)

This primitive reflex found in newborn babies that normally vanishes around 4 months of age. Also known as the "fencing reflex" because the position of the infant's arms and head, resembles that of a classically trained fencer. When the face is turned to one side, the leg and arm on the same side extend and the arm and leg on the opposite side flex.
