Stages of Syphilis
Early Primary:
 • Painless chancre
 • Regional lymphadenopathy
Early Secondary:
 • Fever, malaise
 • Rash (can include palms and soles)
 • Pharyngitis
 • Condyloma lata
 • Mucous patch
Early Latent:
 • Positive serologic testing 
 • No symptoms
 • Within first year of infection
Late Tertiary:
 • Cardiovascular
 • Aortitis, thoracic aortic aneurysm, arteritis
 • Gummatous
 • Nodular lesions in bone, skin, etc.
Late Latent:
 • Positive serologic testing
 • >1 year after serologic testing
 • Time of infection unknown
