Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) Treatment
Primary HLH:
 - HLH-94 Protocol
    • Dexamethasone
    • Etoposide
    • Cyclosporine (sometimes omitted)
    • +/- intrathecal methotrexate (depending on CNS involvement)
 - Followed by hematopoietic cell transplantation
Secondary HLH:
 • Approach varies depending on trigger
 • Almost all patients receive steroids
 • In mild cases associated with infection or autoimmune disease, treatment of underlying condition may spare patient more toxic therapy
 • Options for severe cases include: HLH-94, anakinra, IVIg, rituximab, alemtuzumab, tacrolimus
 • Hematopoietic cell transplantation for refractory disease
