Boxer's fracture is a commonly used generic term used to describe a fracture of the neck of a metacarpal - most commonly the 5th and the 4th.
This most commonly occurs when someone punches a hard object (such as a table) with the fist clenched.
The term Boxer's fracture, thus, is arguably a misnomer because trained boxers never make the rookie mistake of punching like that. That's why this is sometimes called a scrapper's or brawler's fracture!
