Micronutrient Deficiencies After Gastric Bypass
Fat-Soluble Vitamins:
 • Vitamin A - Night/complete blindness, xeropthalmia (pathologic dryness of the conjunctiva and cornea), poor bone growth, non-specific skin rash
 • Vitamin D - Bone disease, secondary hyperparathyroidism
 • Vitamin K - Coagulopathy
Water-Soluble Vitamins:
 • Thiamine - Nausea and vomiting, Wernicke's encephalopathy (encephalopathy, oculomotor dysfunction, gait ataxia), Korsakoff syndrome (amnesia, apathy, normal cognition and long-term memory, confabulation), dry berberi (distal sensorimotor polyneuropathy), wet beriberi (cardiomyopathy)
 • Folate - Macrocytic anemia
 • Vitamin B12 - Macrocytic anemia, cognitive deficits, myelopathy
Trace Minerals:
 • Iron - Anemia
 • Zinc - Alopecia, night blindness, dermatitis, decreased immune function, diarrhea
 • Copper - Myelopathy with muscle weakness, peripheral sensory neuropathy, ataxia, cognitive dysfunction, anemia,
 • Calcium - Bone disease, secondary hyperparathyroidism
