Ascites - Differential Diagnosis and Workup Algorithm

Perform paracentesis:

 • Cell count and diff 

 • Total protein

 • Fluid albumin and serum albumin

 • Aerobic and anaerobic culture

 • Check ascites WBC and PMN

 • Calculate SAAG and check ascites total protein
