Positive Drop Arm Test on Shoulder Exam - Supraspinatus Injury



Starting from 90 degrees of passive shoulder abduction, release support and ask the patient to slowly control the descent of the arm down to neutral position.



A positive (abnormal) test is when there is a sudden drop or pain lowering the arm, indicating supraspinatus injury.

A negative (normal) test is when there is controlled arm lowering without difficulty or pain.
