THE LIMPING OR NON-WEIGHT BEARING CHILD PATHWAY


RED FLAGS - In all cases there are specific

markers which raise the suspicion

of severe disease and these

should be specifically looked for in

the history and examination.


Non-accidental Injury - Follow local guidelines
General - 

Systemic upset, non weight

bearing, limping for more than 4

weeks


Malignancy - Night pain, night sweats, pallor,

bruising, lymphadenopathy,

hepatomegaly, splenomegaly,

abnormal neurology, back pain


Haematology - Sickle cell disease


Rheumatology - Leg length discrepancy, multiple

joint involvement


Sepsis - Immuno-compromise
