COVID-19 Intubations - Team Roles to Minimize Exposure



Respiratory Therapist is encouraged to stay outside the room to minimize exposure. Can enter if needed, or to setup the ventilator after the ETT balloon is inflated and the viral filter (HEPA filter) is applied

Documentation RN stays outside the room to minimize exposure. May enter the room to pass emergent additional medication, equipment or to support the medication admin

In addition, has an ASCOM phone and the paging window open for:

a) Anesthesia Backup

b) Surgical Airway Response 

The COVID-19 supervisor ensures that nobody enters or exits the room without the expected PPE procedures and hand hygiene. Ensures that all personnel have all appropriate equipment for plan A and B, and that plan C equipment are readily available outside the room. Coordinates the post-procedural debrief and ensures all equipment are cleaned and disposed according to the guidelines.
