Central Nervous System Pharmacology - Somatic and Autonomic Receptors

Somatic

 • Rocuronium -> Non-depolarizing (reversible competitive inhibitors)

 • Succinylcholine -> Depolarization

 • Neostigmine - blocks action AchE = increases the levels of Ach (reversal of nondepolarizing agents)

 • Atropine -> reversible competitive antagonist (anti- cholinergic)

Autonomic

 • Parasympathetic “Rest and Digest” - Ach -> Nicotinic Receptor -> Ach -> Muscarinic Receptor

 • Sympathetic “Fight or Flight” - Ach -> Nicotinic Receptor -> NE -> Adrenergic Receptor

 • Sympathetic Innervation of Adrenal Medulla - Ach -> Adrenal Medulla Nicotinic Receptor -> Epinephrine released into blood -> Adrenergic Receptor
