Causes of HyperKalemia - Differential Diagnosis

Increased extracellular K+:

 • Tissue injury

 • Hemolysis

 • Rhabdomyolysis

 • Tumor lysis syndrome

 • Metabolic acidosis

 • Succinylcholine

 • Diabetes mellitus

 • Hyperglycemia

 • Hypertonicity

 • ß2-receptor antagonists

 • Aldosterone blockers

 • Cardiac glycosides

 • High acute iatrogenic K+ load

 • Increased dietary intake

 • Blood transfusion

 • Error of injection

Decreased K+ Elimination:

 • AKI

 • Hypovolemia

 • RAAS inhibitor

 • Calcineurin inhibitor

 • Cardiac glycosides

 • Aldosterone blockers
