Hemolytic Disease of the Newborn

All Rh(D)- pregnant women should be screened for anti-Rh(D) antibodies at the first prenatal visit, and again at 28 weeks.

If antibodies are not present, the woman should receive anti-Rh(D) immunoglobulin at 28 weeks and shortly after delivery.

Prevents hemolytic disease of the newborn from occurring during the woman's future pregnancies by preventing her immune system's response to an exposure to D antigen.
