Hypothermia in Sepsis - Pathophysiology
 • 20% of septic pts → HYPOTHERMIA
 • Increased mortality 62% vs 26% without hypothermia
 • Risk factors for hypothermia in sepsis: Low BMI, HTN, Chronic Cardiovascular insufficiency
MECHANISMS:
1. Loss of endothelial integrity and heat loss
2. Lack of proinflammatory cytokines ↓TNF-α, ↓IL-6, ↓IL-1
3. Or excessive anti-inflammatory cytokine response ↑IL-10
