Acute Altered Mental Status - Rapid Response Management



1) Ask while en route: vitals, hyper/hypoactive, POC glucose, security, access

2) Categorize and stabilize: AMS is just a symptom, not a diagnosis!

 • Hyperactive (Agitation)

 • Hypoactive 

3) Examine: Always get context!

4) Diagnosis and Workup

5) Treat the underlying cause
