Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE): Musculoskeletal Manifestations



 • Immune Complex Deposition

    - Arthralgia, Arthritis - Migratory, symmetrical, polyarticular, non-erosive

    - Myalgia (40-80%) - Proximal Weakness, Normal CK

    - Myositis (5-10%) - Proximal Weakness, Incr CK

 • Bone marrow infarction, demineralization, and trabecular thinning -> Avascular / Osteonecrosis Esp. humeral and femoral heads

 • Myopathy (Also caused by hydroxychloroquine therapy), Normal CK

 • Osteoporosis
